Change in HIV RNA Level
Group RH
After 12 weeks of RE therapy and HAART, the mean HIV RNA level decreased by 1.16 log10 (p = 0.00018). Of the 20 subjects, HIV RNA levels decreased in 17, remained unchanged in 2, and increased in 1.
Group H
After 12 weeks of HAART, the mean HIV RNA level increased by 0.16 log10 (p = 0.243). Of the 20 subjects, HIV RNA levels decreased in 6, remained unchanged in 2, and increased in 12.
Group R
After 12 weeks of RE therapy, the mean HIV RNA level decreased by 1.00 log10 (p = 0.001). Of the 10 subjects, HIV RNA levels decreased in 9 and increased in 1.
Group U
After 12 weeks in the untreated group, the mean HIV RNA level increased by 0.05 log10 (p = 0.775). Of the 10 subjects, HIV RNA levels decreased in 5, remained unchanged in 1, and increased in 4.
Implication from the Above Outcomes
The above outcomes showed that the combination of HAART and RE therapy, and RE therapy alone are efficacious in the suppression of HIV viral load.
